Home Improvement Grants – Federal Grant Money to Modernize Your Home

Making repairs to your house can be very expensive for any homeowner. However, there are federal programs offered by the government that can help to defray some of the costs. An excellent place to start is with Section 504 loans and grants program administered through the US Department of Agriculture Office of Rural Development. This program offers grants and loans to people in the low income brackets.

This program was first authorized as part of the Housing Act of 1949. Their primary goal is to remove any health or safety issues in a person’s home. The funds can also be used for several types of general home improvement. This can include remodeling project that will make a house handicap accessible, removal of other safety hazards, or just generally modernizing a home to help bring it up to current standing with local zoning laws.

These loans are usually used for improving heating, electric or plumbing issues in a property. As the need for energy conservation continues to grow in the US, they have begun putting special emphasis on any project that helps to make properties energy efficient. As a result they tend to focus many of their loans on low-income properties that need additional weatherization for the winter. When used in this manner a loan can not only help to improve a property, but can help to save a great deal of money for the home owner.

These loans are aimed primarily at rural areas with populations lower than 10,000 citizens. This can at times be expanded to include areas with populations up to 25,000. However, these areas can’t be included in any Metropolitan statistical zones.

Grants are always the preferred way to go since they don’t need to be repaid to the government. In order to qualify for a grant the home owner must be over the age of 62 and lacks the capacity to be able to repay the loan. These grants can go as high as $7,500 per household. This can go a long ways in helping to modernize a house.

The loans offered by the Dept. of Agriculture can range up to $20,000 per household. They also offer extremely generous interest with only 1% for a 20-year-term loan. This makes it an extremely attractive loan for most people. It’s highly unlikely that anyone could find such a good deal from their local banks.

Anyone interested in any of the grants or loans offered by the Department of Agriculture can visit their website for more information. The site offers maps and income calculators the home owners determine if they qualify for these programs.

College Tuition Grants and Scholarships With a Twist

Some things are destined to be bizarre, but college scholarships? Scholarships and college tuition grants have an air of seriousness when you talk about them with your friends and parents. After all, a college scholarship can take you all the way to your college graduation day. But that kind of gravity may not be so existent when some people decided that your knowledge of the Wookie tongue or that you are left-handed makes you worthy of a college scholarship, or at least some college money to get you started.

The Tall Club International offers an annual college tuition grant to their members. And while it is a very generous offer, there is one catch if you want to nail this scholarship. You need to be tall, really tall. For males, you need to stand at least 6’2 and 5’10 if you belong to the female of the species. Aside from your height, you also need to be creative with your writing as you need to submit an essay entitled, “What Being Tall Means to Me.”

Granted the most scholarships and academic grants are given based on a student’s academic merit. But have you heard of a scholarship being given that is based on a name. If your last name is Van Valkenburg, or has the slightest variation of that name, then perhaps you are eligible to apply for the Van Valkenburg Memorial Scholarship. It’s worth $1,000 and not restricted to specific colleges and universities.

If you are left-handed, then you could coast all the way through college. The Frederick and Mary F. Beckley “Left-Handed” Scholarship is dedicated to deserving sophomores, juniors or seniors attending Juniata College. Aside from the proof of financial need, you also need to demonstrate that you are indeed, left-handed.

You can still check other scholarships and college tuition grants with strange, bizarre twists. Of course, you also need to demonstrate that you deserve such strange scholarships if you want it. Now, who said, being Trekkie won’t get you anywhere?

Eliminating Debt Grants – Get a Federal Grant to Clear Your Debts Or Go to College

What are the pros when it comes to receiving government grants? Maybe this seems like a crazy question, but here are some bits of knowledge you may not know.

Here are some other figures and facts on grants, as they pertain to single moms, or any person, that may be searching for grant sign-ups that will free them of debt, allow them to start a business, or let them earn a college degree.

Maybe the most important aspect of a grant is that a persons financial record is not taken into account. If you have a history of bankruptcy, you may have a hard time trying to simply apply for a standard loan, but this is not the case with federal grants. Because no money must be repaid and the government will not ever have to get involved with retrieving money, they do not care about a persons ability to pay a loan off.

In this economic climate, there is an abundance of government education grants. The administration has created a package worth $12 billion to provide aid to college students, including those that are single moms, that seek aid in funding for no less than two years. Some of the programs tailor the grants more specifically toward women, but there are federal grants for basically any individual hoping to return to school.

Grants and loans for college are not the only ones that are popular. You can also receive grants, both on the federal and state level, for your business.

Presidential grants for small businesses are a high priority at the moment.

But the free grants craze is not strictly an American thing. Many Canadian state grants have been created for their citizens. These grants have existed for quite some time. It is just that the idea of funding a business or college tuition comes with the stigma of going into debt. Thankfully, with these grants, this is no longer the case.

The ultimate deciding factor is your situation. If you are single and are poor or are in a low-income job, it becomes very easy to apply and receive grants in various areas. Single mothers can pretty much be guaranteed that they will receive a pell grant in order to return to college, thanks in large part to the new administrations focus on allowing single mothers a chance to go back to college. This is the same for those hoping to start a business.

The executives in charge of giving business grants are open to funding almost any type of business. Whether you are first starting out as a business owner, or simply would hope to expand your current business, grants exist in order to help you. Business should be a means to monetary independence, but if you are constantly hampered by financial debt, these grants can give you some breathing space and let you proceed by paying off that debt.

Despite this cash flow, you must exercise caution. The Web is filled with people looking to sell lists of outdated and defunct grant programs in order to profit off of your desperation.

Rather than pay for a list of grants, go online and look for free ones today. If you are willing to do a little homework and compare data, you are on your way to a grant. It may be wise to find someone that has already been funded by a grant that can tell you which programs are for real.

Regardless of your motivation, business or educational, help yourself by signing up for central government grants as soon as possible and get out of debt.

School Grants For Women

If you are a woman who is headed to college, you may be able to find help to pay for your education based on your gender alone. You are considered a minority, and as a result, there are specific grants available for you. You just need to know where to look and be a little aggressive when pursuing potential opportunities.

The first step towards getting any grant, no matter whether it is specifically for female students or not, is to file the FAFSA. This determines your level of financial need, and many non-government grants will want to know how needy you are before offering you the money. Get this filed as early as possible to open the door to the most grant opportunities.

Women are vastly underrepresented in many fields, particularly science, math, and medicine. For this reason, many schools offer grants to encourage women students to enter these fields. If you are interested in studying a scientific field, talk to the department head at your chosen school. You may find that there is a grant available that you had no idea existed. Remember, it never hurts to ask!

Always talk to your financial aid office at the school you are going to attend. It’s their job to know what scholarships are available, and they may be able to point you towards some that are specifically designated for female students. Once you start filling out applications, continue with the process. Always follow up, asking if there is anything else you need to do to get your grant application in and noticed.

Whether a grant is gender-specific or not, you need to apply early. Grant money will be awarded as applications come in. If you wait until you are close to the start of the school year, the money may all be gone. Once a school has spent all of the money it is receiving, no more will be made available, no matter how well qualified an applicant may be.

Remember to think outside of the box. Is there a local beauty pageant you qualify to participate in? Consider signing up, and you might earn some scholarship or grant money for school. Is there a local women’s society or charity that caters to females? Volunteer your time, and you may get noticed by a local business that has a grant to offer. Apply for any opportunity, scholarship, or grant that you find, and you will get as much money as possible to pay for your education.

Grants For Women in Need – Go to College and Get a Good Job Using Other People’s Money

Women now have the freedom to work almost anywhere they want. Despite this equality being enshrined in law, there is still a covert level of gender discrimination in the workplace. There are still few women CEOs, few women Professors and few women politicians. This inability of women to get good jobs was not a big problem in the past because there were strong family and community ties to help women in need when something happened to their husbands. But this is not the case today. Both men and women have to stand on their own – even single mothers with children to feed.

Fortunately, higher education has greatly leveled the playing field. Despite gender discrimination, a woman with a college education can get a good job. Of course, with college tuition fees being so expensive, the question now becomes – how is a woman to afford college? Because this problem has been around for quite some time, several parties have stepped up to the plate to provide grants for women in need.

These grants take various forms, but are intended to help a woman (especially single mothers) get her Bachelors degree so that she can get a good job. The grants that are most sought after are scholarships which give away free money. However, competition is fierce and most of these scholarships do not pay the full tuition fee. One further problem is that many of them require full-time study, which is a problem for most single mothers who have to work full-time as well as over-time to feed their children.

Nevertheless, there are still a few of these scholarship providers. One of them is the federal government’s Pell Grant (which can be found on the FAFSA site). It awards up to $5500 to any US citizen studying for his or her first Bachelors degree full-time. Less money will be awarded for part-time study. It also accepts online university courses – many Phoenix University students can afford to enroll only because they receive money from the Pell Grant.

Besides the federal government, there are also private scholarships like those sponsored by the Philanthropic Educational Organization and the Jeannette Rankin Women’s Foundation. The former (PEO) has separate scholarship programs for young women and older women. The Jeannette Rankin Foundation only awards scholarships to women over 35.

As previously mentioned, scholarships are just one way that grant money is dispensed to women in need. A common alternative to scholarships is student loans. The biggest and most famous of these is the federal government’s Stafford program. It subsidizes and guarantees student loans offered by banks and credit unions, reducing the commercial interest rate by nearly half (from about 12% or 13% down to 6.8%). There is another lesser known alternative – the Perkins loan program. It is also sponsored by the government, but the loans are offered by the college. The details are roughly the same as that for the Stafford loan. Like the Pell Grant, both of these programs are available on the FAFSA site. The previously introduced PEO also offers its own student loan at an interest rate of 3% to 4%.

Many women are still stuck working menial jobs because they did not go to college. While some of them lack the determination to improve themselves, many are just ignorant of the free study grants for women in need. If they take up these scholarships and loans, they will be able to get their Bachelors degrees and find better jobs without having to spend their own money.
